A Special (and Exceptionally Well-Watered) Night for Russell Lodge
Thursday evening was a memorable one at Russell Lodge as James Wootton was installed as Master, surrounded by a full house of members and guests, and honoured by the presence of Deputy Provincial Grand Master Martin Wilson.
The evening quickly moved from ceremonial to legendary thanks to James’s father, Ted, who arrived bearing what can only be described as a statement bottle of wine. Not content with a standard magnum (or even something merely large), Ted produced a Melchior, a mighty 18-litre bottle, equal to 24 regular bottles and impressive enough to require its own custom-built pouring apparatus.
With excellent ritual, great company, fine food, and an unforgettable centrepiece on display, it was a superb evening thoroughly enjoyed by all and one that will be talked about for some time (especially whenever someone asks, “Do you remember that bottle?” 🍷).
